3 ways to prepare your home interior for winter

Updated: Apr 7

I don’t know about you, but September has come around in a flash this year. The mornings are feeling autumnal and the evenings are drawing in. I am not a huge fan of winter. I’m always cold, have less energy and enthusiasm, and have to dig deep to draw myself out of bed in the mornings. As I tend to go into a state of semi-hibernation, my home is my sanctuary. It’s therefore important it matches my mood; feeling warm, calming, and cosy.

Here are my 3 ways you can prepare your home for winter

Introduce layers of texture.

Add different patterns and textures using home accessories to introduce warmth and interest to a room instantly. Select cushions, throws, and rugs in warming hues and tactile fabrics including wools, felts, and rich velvets.

Introduce comforting scents.

Lift your mood, by adding candles or reed diffusers to introduce the scent of aromatic winter spices.

Make sure your lighting is up to the task.

As the quality of natural daylight diminishes during the winter months, ensure you have good artificial lighting around the home to enable you to carry out your activities without straining your eyes. Tasks such as reading, cooking, or desk work require a bright white light. Choose a soft warm diffused light for relaxing and creating a calm atmosphere.

Throw is added to a bed, with a pile of reading books and some glasses.
Add blankets and throws around the home to snuggle under.
